Gavin Levinthal, MD

Dr. Levinthal is a staff gastroenterologist at the Thompson Peak campus. He is board-certified in gastroenterology, hepatology and internal medicine. A native of South Africa, Dr. Levinthal received his medical degree from the University of The Witwatersrand in Johannesburg. He completed his internship and residency in South Africa before coming to the U.S. as an internal medicine resident at Mt. Sinai Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio. Later he became chief resident in internal medicine and was a gastroenterology fellow at both Mt. Sinai Medical Center and Metrohealth Medical Center in Cleveland.

Stuart Triester, MD

Dr. Triester has been a gastroenterologist on staff at Thompson Peak Hospital since 2008. He came to Arizona following seven years in Bellevue, Wash., as both a gastroenterologist in private practice and as a hospitalist physician with the Overlake Hospital Medical Center in Bellevue. He earned his medical degree (summa cum laude) from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, Pa. He was an internal medicine resident at the University of Washington in Seattle and served his fellowship in gastroenterology at the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale. He is board-certified in gastroenterology and hepatology.

Jay Mellen, MD

A practicing gastroenterologist in Scottsdale since 1985, Dr. Mellen is a board-certified gastroenterologist at the Osborn campus. Dr. Mellen earned his medical degree from the Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara in Mexico. He completed his gastroenterology fellowship at Brown University's Rhode Island Hospital in Providence. In addition to his involvement with Honor Health, he was chief of staff for five years at Phoenix Memorial Hospital, where he chaired several medical committees.

Leon Rigberg, MD

Dr. Rigberg is board certified in gastroenterology and internal medicine and is trained in all endoscopic procedures including ERCP, esophageal motility studies and hepatology. Dr. Rigberg earned his medical degree from Hahnemann Medical School in Philadelphia. Prior to moving to Arizona, he was in private practice in Allentown, PA for two years. Dr. Rigberg has chaired the Endoscopy Committee at Honor Health's Scottsdale hospitals since 2005. He also served as Chief of the Gastroenterology Department at Phoenix Memorial Hospital for 10 years.

Dr. Shah is board certified in gastroenterology and internal medicine. He earned his medical degree at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York where he was awarded an international fellowship grant. He completed his residency in internal medicine at Brown University in Rhode Island where he was honored for excellence in consultative medicine, and his fellowship in gastroenterology at an affiliate of Columbia University in New York. He did additional training at Mt. Sinai Medical Center in transplant hepatology and has been involved in several gastroenterology research projects.

Dr. Thosani is board certified in both gastroenterology and internal medicine. He specializes in many advanced procedures including endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), diagnostic and interventional endoscopic ultrasound (EUS), endoscopic treatment of Barrett's esophagus, endoscopic mucosal resection (an advanced technique to remove large tumors that otherwise would require surgery), endoluminal stent placement and single balloon enteroscopy to evaluate hard-to-reach areas of the small intestine.

Dr. Fares received his medical degree from the American University of Beirut, Lebanon, and completed an internal medicine residency program and a fellowship in gastroenterology at St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center, Seton Hall University in New Jersey.

He is board certified by the American Board of Gastroenterology and the American Board of Internal Medicine. His professional memberships include the American College of Gastroenterology and the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.

Dr. Fares served as associate clinical professor of the University of Balamand Medical School, Balamand, Lebanon. He has authored many journal articles and received numerous awards.

Anahita Rezaie, MD

Dr. Rezaie received her medical degree from Tehran University of Medical Sciences in Tehran, Iran, in 2006. She completed a fellowship at the Yale School of Medicine in New Haven, Conn., in 2007. She is board-certified in internal medicine and is especially interested in diagnosing and treating acute GI pathologies, irritable bowel syndrome, celiac disease, food allergies and GERD as well as preventing cancer. She is fluent in English, Farsi and French.

Shahbaz Qureshi, MD

Dr. Qureshi received his medical degree from Nishtar Medical College in Pakistan. Board-certified in internal medicine, he completed his residency and fellowship at Cooper University Hospital in Camden, N.J. He is particularly interested in using endoscopy as a treatment modality as well as for diagnosis of medical conditions. Dr. Qureshi is fluent in English and Urdu.
