HonorHealth’s partnership with Arizona State University (ASU) has reached a major milestone, one that strengthens our shared commitment to shaping the next generation of clinicians and innovators.
Preliminary accreditation granted
The new John Shufeldt School of Medicine and Medical Engineering at ASU, for which HonorHealth is the primary clinical affiliate, has received preliminary accreditation from the Liaison Committee on Medical Education. This marks the beginning of a bold new model for medical education in Arizona, supported by a historic gift from local physician and entrepreneur, John Shufeldt, MD.
A new kind of medical education
The program blends medicine, engineering and innovation to prepare students for the evolving realities of clinical practice. Each graduate will earn both an MD and a Master of Science in Medical Engineering in four years, combining scientific rigor with problem-solving and technology development skills.
Curriculum highlights include:
- Clinical simulation and AI-integrated diagnostics
- Collaboration with industry partners through the ReMIX technology immersion
- Capstone design projects guided by academic and clinical mentors
What this means for HonorHealth
This collaboration positions HonorHealth at the forefront of medical education innovation and strengthens our pipeline of skilled, mission-driven clinicians for Arizona’s growing communities.
The school will be located at ASU’s downtown Phoenix Health Headquarters and open its doors in 2028, with its first class beginning in fall 2026.
