By Andrew Sheppard, FNP, senior director, advanced practice providers
There’s a lot that goes into being an exceptional APP. It takes knowledge, skill, confidence and a willingness to keep learning. But if you ask me what makes our APPs truly special, I’d say it comes down to something much simpler: you care.
You care about your patients. You care about your teams. You care about doing things the right way, even when the right way takes a little more time, a little more thought or a little more effort.
Every day, I see our APPs show up for patients in ways that matter. You’re there to answer questions, ease fears, advocate for patients and families, celebrate good news and navigate the difficult moments. You build relationships and earn trust, often during some of the most vulnerable moments in a person’s life.
And you do so much more than care for patients.
You support your colleagues. You share your knowledge. You step in when someone needs help. You speak up when something doesn’t feel right. You bring new ideas to the table and help make the teams around you stronger.
That’s what I appreciate most about our APP community. We have an incredible range of specialties, backgrounds and experiences, but we’re united by a shared commitment to our patients and to one another. Being part of a community that's always willing to learn from each other, lift each other up and find ways to make care better is invaluable.
So, during APP Week, I hope you’ll take a moment to recognize the difference you make.
To every HonorHealth APP, thank you.
Thank you for the expertise you bring to every patient encounter. Thank you for the compassion you bring to every conversation. Thank you for the countless small moments of care, kindness and advocacy that may never make it into a chart or a headline but mean everything to the person on the other side of you.
I’m incredibly proud to work alongside you, and I’m grateful for everything you bring to HonorHealth every day.
Happy APP Week!
