Welcome to the HonorHealth Dermatology Residency Program in the sunny state of Arizona. You’ll gain distinctive experience at each of the four dermatology training sites within the Phoenix metropolitan area — Anthem, Deer Valley, Surprise and Scottsdale. Each site is equipped with advanced medical technology and tools designed to assist physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of a wide variety of dermatological conditions.
Patients represent a diverse group ranging from newborn to seniors. Combined sites provided over 28,500 patient encounters last year. In total, 120 melanoma and 1,454 non-melanoma tumors were diagnosed and managed. Each site is staffed, organized and equipped to provide a full range of supervised training and didactic expertise.
The program’s goal is to give patients the highest quality of care and expertise. The program’s practitioners specialize in the treatment of malignant melanoma by using slow Mohs surgery. Mohs surgery is the gold standard of care for many patients diagnosed with skin cancer, and this is the only practice in Arizona with six surgeons. Slow Mohs surgery is a skin-sparing procedure that allows for the recognition of pigmented cells unlike frozen sections used with regular Mohs surgery. Slow Mohs surgery is the definitive surgical technique for complete removal of normal tissue.
To give each trainee the educational and practical experience to allow demonstrable expert clinical competency in the care of adult and pediatric diseases of the skin and its appendages in a professional learning environment of scholarship and cooperation. Education, in conjunction with excellent patient care, is the primary purpose of the program.
