Jay Patel, MD

Jay N. Patel, MD, is a neuro-ophthalmologist with expertise in diagnosing and managing conditions affecting the optic nerves, visual pathways and eye movements. He earned his medical degree from the University of Arizona College of Medicine-Phoenix, completed his residency at Barrow Neurological Institute and completed a neuro-ophthalmology fellowship at Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. His clinical interests include non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION), idiopathic intracranial hypertension, papilledema, optic neuritis, inflammatory optic neuropathies, cranial nerve palsies, ocular myasthenia and transient or unexplained vision loss. He is board-certified in neurology by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.

Dr. Patel provides comprehensive neuro-ophthalmic evaluations, including visual field testing and optical coherence tomography. He specializes in evaluating optic nerve disorders and managing double vision, eye movement disorders and other complex visual conditions.

Dr. Patel takes a thoughtful, individualized approach to care. He listens closely to each patient, carefully reviews their imaging and diagnostic testing and explains their condition in clear, understandable language. His goal is to create a personalized treatment plan that helps patients fully understand their condition and its management.

Originally from Phoenix, Dr. Patel enjoys recreational running, reading historical fiction and traveling. He also speaks conversational Gujarati.
