About

KJ Hippensteel, MD, is a fellowship-trained, board-certified orthopedic surgeon with subspecialty certification in sports medicine. He specializes in joint-preserving arthroscopic and open surgery, as well as joint replacement (arthroplasty) surgery for the hip, knee, shoulder and elbow, providing comprehensive care through a patient-centered approach tailored to each individual.

Dr. Hippensteel brings a unique perspective to his practice as a former athlete — an NCAA tennis champion at Stanford University who spent six years competing on the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) tour. Having undergone orthopedic surgery himself, he approaches patient care with deep empathy and guides patients through every step of their injury and recovery process. His practice emphasizes treatment plans that address both immediate needs and long-term goals.

He has extensive experience working with professional sports teams. Dr. Hippensteel has served as a team physician for Major League Baseball’s Chicago White Sox and has worked with the New York Mets, New York Rangers, St. Louis Blues and former St. Louis Rams. He also served in the U.S. Navy for seven years, completing his military career at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Hippensteel enjoys spending time with his family, playing tennis and baseball, hiking and skiing.
