Four Peaks Internal Medicine Medical Student Program

Fourth-year medical students from U.S. medical schools accredited by the LCME (or equivalent) who are interested in pursuing a career in Internal Medicine are invited to apply for a 4-week sub-internship with HonorHealth's Four Peaks Medical Center Internal Medicine Residency Program.

This hands-on clinical experience is designed to provide students with direct patient care responsibilities while working alongside residents, faculty physicians, and multidisciplinary healthcare professionals.
 

Rotation experience

Inpatient service

Students will spend three weeks on the Internal Medicine inpatient service, participating as an integral member of the healthcare team. Responsibilities include:

• Evaluating and managing hospitalized adult patients with a wide range of acute and chronic medical conditions.
• Participating in daily patient rounds with residents and attending physicians.
• Developing differential diagnoses and management plans.
• Presenting patients during teaching rounds and care conferences.
• Collaborating with consultants, nurses, pharmacists, case managers, and other healthcare professionals.
   

Outpatient continuity clinic

Students will spend one week in our continuity clinic, gaining experience in ambulatory Internal Medicine and preventive care. During this rotation, students will:

• Evaluate and manage patients in a supervised outpatient setting.
• Participate in chronic disease management and preventive medicine.
• Work with an integrated care team, including care coordination, nutrition services, behavioral health, and clinical pharmacy.
• Gain exposure to quality improvement and population health initiatives.
   

Educational experience

Medical student rotators participate fully in the educational activities of the residency program, including:

• Daily teaching rounds
• Resident and faculty-led didactic sessions (half day Thursday)
• Morning reports and case discussions
• Journal clubs and evidence-based medicine activities
• Direct observation and ongoing feedback from faculty and residents
• A final summative evaluation at the completion of the rotation

Please note: No stipend, housing assistance, or travel reimbursement is provided for visiting medical student rotators.

• Current Curriculum Vitae (CV)
• USMLE or COMLEX Board Scores (if available)
• Internal Medicine Rotation Application (available through VSLO)
   

Application review

To be considered for a rotation, all required documentation must be uploaded and complete in VSLO.

Applications will be reviewed by the Internal Medicine Clerkship Director and/or Program Leadership. Applicants will be notified of their rotation status through VSLO.

• Academic performance
• Professional qualifications
• Alignment with program requirements
   

Applicants will receive notification of acceptance or denial through VSLO once the review process is complete.
