Celebrating the volunteers who make care feel human

HonorHealth recognized the contributions of its volunteers during a Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon held April 16 at the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess Resort, part of National Volunteer Week observances across the organization.

More than 1,300 volunteers supported HonorHealth patients, families and care teams in 2025, contributing over 177,000 hours of service. Their roles span the health system — from greeting visitors and helping individuals navigate facilities to offering comfort during some of the most difficult moments in care.

Over the past year, volunteers also expanded their impact through new programs. At HonorHealth Scottsdale Osborn Medical Center, volunteers supported the Trauma Survivor Cart, providing comfort items and connection to patients and families. A new dementia volunteer program launched as well, focusing on presence, patience and meaningful engagement for patients experiencing cognitive challenges.

The luncheon also recognized volunteers reaching milestone anniversaries for their years of service, highlighting the long-term commitment many bring to the organization:

  • Kathy Wasson – 25 years
  • Tom Paige – 30 years
  • Karen Love – 40 years
HonorHealth recognizes Tom Paige's 30 year volunteer anniversary at the 2026 Volunteer Appreciate Luncheon in Scottsdale, Arizona for National Volunteer Week.

While the numbers reflect the scale of their contributions, leaders emphasized the deeper impact volunteers have on the patient experience — helping ensure care feels personal, compassionate and human.
