Chocolate hummus

Who says dessert can’t be good for your heart? This easy-peasy chocolate hummus brings together cocoa, maple syrup and protein-packed chickpeas for a sweet treat that’s equal parts decadent and smart. Perfect for Valentine’s Day, date night or even as a healthier twist on afternoon snacks for the kiddos. Share it. Dip it. Fall in love with it again and again.

Ingredients

  • 1⁄4 cup + 1 tablespoon no-salt canned garbanzo beans
  • 11⁄2 teaspoons tahini
  • 2 pinches salt
  • ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon + 2 teaspoons maple syrup
  • 1 tablespoon + 1 teaspoon cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon avocado oil
  • Dairy-free chocolate chips (optional)

Preparation

  1. If you are using canned chickpeas, remove the skin around the individual chickpeas. This step is optional but will result in an extra smooth and creamy hummus.
  2. Add all ingredients (except chocolate chips, if using) to your food processor. Blend until smooth and creamy, stopping to scrape down the sides as needed. It may take a few minutes of blending to achieve a smooth consistency.
  3. Stir in the chocolate chips, if desired. Serve with fresh strawberries, bananas, raspberries, apple slices, pretzels, rice cakes or whatever else you can dream up. Enjoy!
