About

HonorHealth Cancer Care gives you access to an elite team of experts across the Valley. The physicians we collaborate with are nationally and internationally recognized.

Dr. Shelley Nakamura, a fellowship-trained breast surgeon, is dedicated to educating her patients about their risks of developing breast cancer. She works with high-risk patients to create a plan that reduces their risk of developing breast cancer and allows for early detection. Those with certain genetic mutations (such as BRCA or CHEK2), a strong family history of breast or ovarian cancer, previous biopsies showing atypical hyperplasia or lobular carcinoma in situ, dense breast tissue, or radiation exposure during childhood, may benefit from Dr. Nakamura’s care. Dr. Nakamura works with a team of genetic counselors, medical oncologists and gynecologic oncologists who will help develop an effective plan for detection and prevention.

Care philosophy

Dr. Nakamura’s goal is to empower patients with increased awareness and provide advanced monitoring through high-risk assessments such as genetic testing or calculation with statistical models. She offers, risk reduction through preventative surgery or use of antiestrogens. She also encourages as well as lifestyle changes to lessen cancer risk.
