At 15, Dustin Nguyen was already a freshman at Barrett, The Honors College at Arizona State University. He was also beginning another important chapter: volunteering at HonorHealth Deer Valley Medical Center.
Just four years later, Dustin entered medical school.
Since 2022, he’s given more than 250 hours of service alongside the Endoscopy team at Deer Valley, gaining a firsthand look at healthcare while pursuing his goal of becoming a doctor.
“I’ve always known I wanted to pursue a career in medicine, and volunteering at HonorHealth gave me the opportunity to see healthcare firsthand and confirm that this is where I belong,” Dustin said. “I’m grateful for everything I learned at Deer Valley, and I’m excited to take this next step toward becoming a physician.”
Dustin received his bachelor’s degree from ASU in May 2026. Now 19, he‘s a member of the inaugural class at Arizona State University’s John Shufeldt School of Medicine and Medical Engineering, set to graduate in 2030.
A love of medicine runs in the family. Dustin’s sister, Sophie, previously volunteered at Deer Valley and is now attending medical school at the University of Arizona.
From starting college and volunteering at just 15 to entering medical school at 19, Dustin has turned an early goal into an exciting next chapter — with HonorHealth still by his side as the school’s primary clinical affiliate.
