Imaging procedures and tests

If your child needs a diagnostic test such as an X-ray, CT scan or MRI, knowing what to expect can ease uncertainty about the procedure.

Child life specialists at Scottsdale Shea Medical Center and Deer Valley Medical Center help explain the tests to young patients in age-appropriate terms. HonorHealth's radiologists, technologists and anesthesiologists are specially trained in pediatric care.

Imaging procedures

Physicians refer patients to the Phoenix and Scottsdale campuses for such imaging procedures as:

  • Diagnostic radiography imaging (X-ray)
  • Computed tomography (CT)
  • Fluoroscopy
  • Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)
  • Nuclear medicine
  • Ultrasound

HonorHealth is a participant in the Alliance for Radiation Safety in Pediatric Imaging's Image Gently Alliance. This is a coalition of healthcare organizations dedicated to providing safe, high-quality pediatric imaging nationwide.

If your physician has recommended a test for your child at an HonorHealth medical center, please call Centralized Scheduling at 480-882-4703. Please make sure your doctor has completed the Pediatric Radiology Exam Request form.

Other medical tests

Physicians may need additional information about your child's medical condition and may ask your permission to conduct additional tests. Depending on the condition, these may include procedures such as endoscopy (viewing internal organs with a small camera-like instrument), biopsy, spinal fluid analysis and others. All tests will be fully explained to you and your child (in age-appropriate language). Your written permission will be requested before any procedure is scheduled.
