Pediatric emergency care

Dedicated pediatric Emergency Departments (ED) are located at Scottsdale Shea Medical Center and at Deer Valley Medical Center in Phoenix. The Pediatric ED is designed just for kids and staffed by board-certified emergency physicians and compassionate nurses trained in pediatric care.

Care closer to home

  • Scottsdale Shea Medical Center's Pediatric ED: Located at Scottsdale Shea Medical Center, just east of the Loop 101 at Shea Boulevard and 90th Street and serving the Northeast Valley. The entrance is through the hospital's main ED check-in, but you'll find a separate waiting room and registration area for children and families.
Scottsdale Shea's Pediatric ER has a full complement of pediatric specialists available with 24-hour coverage for pediatric surgery and orthopedic needs.
  • Deer Valley Medical Center's Pediatric ED: Located at 19829 N. 27th Ave. in Phoenix with a separate entrance next to the adult ED entrance. Open 24/7, the ED serves the North and Northwest Valley.

Both EDs are designed with the pediatric patient in mind: bed sizes range from youth to adult size for bigger kids. Cribs are used for infants and toddlers. All staff members are trained on how to communicate and interact with families and children, taking into account their age and development.

The environment is designed to be child friendly and non-threatening so that both children and parents can feel comfortable. Distractions such as coloring books, toys, video games and books to read are readily available to all patients.

Child Life Specialists support the children and families during their visit by providing an environment that is non-threatening and calming to children and informative and assuring to their parents.
