Medical simulation training

The Office of Academic Affairs is committed to promoting simulation education and training for our residents, fellows and HonorHealth network with an emphasis on patient safety and early acquisition of complex skills. Our comprehensive network-wide simulation program supports interdisciplinary high-quality simulation-based training at or near the point of care.

Mission

To optimize outcomes through simulation while providing an educational structure that promotes safe, interprofessional, and team-based care for all learners.

Background

Simulation has become an important component of medical education and allows our students, residents, fellows, and practitioners to master the technical, cognitive, and behavioral skills of patient care. Our learners can practice in a controlled environment that mimics a clinical situation which allows for repetition to maintain routine and perishable skills. Through task trainers, hi-fidelity manikins, and patient actors our learners can have the hands-on approach to complete the didactic lessons taught in the classroom and tested frequently to continue to go beyond what is expected to provide the highest quality care while upholding HonorHealth’s mission to improve the health and well-being of those we serve.

Goal

Develop comprehensive and interdisciplinary simulation education programs to enhance patient experience and outcomes, with a commitment to train and retain the best physicians, interprofessionals, and staff from across the country.

Simulation labs

Designated educational space is devoted to our clinical learners’ development of technical competence in a simulated environment. Each program has a dedicated faculty overseeing the individual curriculum and needs by specialty.
