Safe ways to get fresh air

Right now, it is best for everyone if you stay at home and don’t go outside. But practicing social distancing doesn’t mean you shouldn’t get fresh air. Getting fresh air is very important – and it always has been. It is a good refresh, will improve your mood and make you feel more alert.

Fresh air = Good for you

Here are some tips on safely getting outdoors for fresh air and exercise while still doing your part to prevent the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19).

    • Open the windows and doors in your home. Try opening windows in several rooms to create a draft and get fresh air circulating through your home.
    • While the weather’s still delightful here in Arizona, go outside. If you go outside to a park or other public places, make sure there’s plenty of space between yourself and others who you do not directly live with – at least six feet.
    • Take your dog for a walk. Walking the dog around the block is a great way to get fresh air and some exercise. Just make sure you are keeping enough space between other people and dogs you pass on the sidewalk during your walk.
    • Drive around the neighborhood with the car windows down. Wave to your neighbors! Having the breeze flow throughout the car on your drive will be refreshing.

When you get home, be sure to wash your hands for at least 20 seconds with soap and water.

    In self-quarantine?

If you’re currently in self-quarantine or isolation because you have been exposed to COVID-19, you can still get fresh air. Please keep in mind that it’s important not to leave your home during your quarantine to reduce the risk of spreading the virus to others. You can get fresh air while staying in quarantine.

    • Open the windows or doors in your home.
    • Go out on a private balcony or patio if you have one. Just be careful if it is close to a neighbor’s space and they are outside at the same time.
    • If you live in a home that has a private backyard, go outside and enjoy the sunshine, just don’t get too close to your neighbors and don’t forget sunscreen.
