Your child's hospital stay

It can be scary for a child to be a hospital patient. Experienced, compassionate pediatric staff members at our two hospitals with pediatric units — Scottsdale Shea Medical Center and Deer Valley Medical Center — do everything possible to reassure you and your child.

Our highly trained team works in an environment of kid-friendly rooms designed especially for infants and children up to age 17. Toy rooms and closets help keep kids entertained as they get better.

At Deer Valley Medical Center, children have access to pediatric general surgery procedures such as tonsillectomies, appendectomies, ear tube insertions and some orthopedic surgeries. More specialized surgeries are referred to other hospitals including Scottsdale Shea Medical Center. Hospitalist-based pediatricians and pediatric intensive care doctors at that facility provide personalized care in collaboration with community pediatricians 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Children have access to these specialties:

  • Pediatric General Surgery
  • Pediatric Cardiology
  • Pediatric GI (Gastroenterology)
  • Pediatric Pulmonology
  • Pediatric Anesthesiology
  • Pediatric Endocrinology
  • Pediatric Orthopedics
  • Pediatric Hematology/Oncology
  • Pediatric Otolaryngology or ENT (ears, eyes nose and throat)
