Parkinson's Disease therapy

HonorHealth offers specialized therapy services designed specifically for individuals living with Parkinson's disease. Our specially trained team of therapists help you use exercise to slow or halt the progression of the disease.

Our team of multi-disciplinary specialists, including physical and occupational therapists, use state-of-the art technology and the latest treatment techniques to help you make positive steps toward improved speech, mobility and self care. Therapists certified in LSVT® BIG and LSVT LOUD® (see information below) will evaluate you and your health history, discuss your therapy goals and work closely with your physician to develop a personal treatment plan, focusing on the area where you need support the most. During each subsequent one-hour session, you'll receive one-on-one care to help you make progress safely and quickly.

LSVT® BIG

Recent scientific studies suggest it's best to begin exercising as soon as you discover you have Parkinson's instead of waiting until you experience impaired function or disability. In fact, exercise may slow, halt or reverse the progression of the disease.

LSVT® BIG is a standardized exercise program that promotes strength, motor learning and changes in brain function. The program includes intensive physical and occupational therapy focused on training you to use internal cues or self monitoring for better movements.

Using the LSVT® BIG principles, physical and occupational therapists teach you to avoid inactivity by incorporating the BIG exercises into everyday activities, which can improve your quality of life. These strategies lead to faster walking with bigger steps, better balance and increased flexibility of the trunk of your body. Remember: You control the movements; you don't let the movements control you.

LSVT® LOUD

Speech problems are common with Parkinson's disease. You may encounter a soft voice, mumbled speech, monotone speech or a hoarse voice.

LSVT® LOUD is known as the gold standard in treating speech disorders for individuals with Parkinson's disease. LSVT® LOUD works to improve volume, speech intelligibility, facial expression and brain function. Results often last up to two years.
