Family Medicine Residency Program at HonorHealth Mountain Vista Medical Center

The HonorHealth Mountain Vista Family Medicine Residency is a suburban, community hospital-based program. Our mission is to train learners from diverse backgrounds into world-class physicians who will provide evidence-based, high-quality care, be passionate about caring for patients and partnering with them on their health and be lifelong learners. We hold firm to the idea that each patient comprises mind, body, and spirit; the three are interrelated to compose a person’s health.

While our program focuses on preparing for life in an outpatient setting, there are plenty of opportunities to train in the inpatient realm. We provide a supportive learning environment and faculty who are genuinely interested in helping you grow in your personal and professional life.

Application information

The HonorHealth Mountain Vista Family Medicine Residency Program offers five PGY-1 positions every year. Applicants must meet one of the ACGME requirements listed below.

  • Must graduate from an Osteopathic Medical School in the United States accredited by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA).
  • Must graduate from a Medical School in the United States and Canada accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME).
  • Graduates of medical schools outside the United States and Canada (Foreign Medical Graduates) must possess a current valid certificate from the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) or have a full unrestricted license to practice medicine in a U.S. licensing jurisdiction in which they are training.
  • We do not sponsor visas of any type.
  • Graduates of medical schools outside the United States who have completed a Fifth Pathway program provided by an LCME-accredited medical school.

Each program sets individual requirements for the application documents that should be submitted with the MyERAS® application. Be sure to research each program individually to determine those requirements before assigning documents. Within your MyERAS account, you must include the following documents:

  • Photo
  • Personal Statement
  • Letter of Recommendation (three)
  • COMLEX-USA Transcript (Level 1, Level 2-CE, and Level 2-PE) / USMLE Transcript (Step 1 and 2)
  • Medical School Performance Evaluation (MSPE) (or “Dean’s Letter”)
  • Medical School Transcript
  • Curriculum Vitae

Appointments are made through the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP), which requires registration in addition to ERAS. If your COMLEX and/or USMLE scores are unavailable at the time of ranking, you will not be eligible to be ranked with the NRMP.

Applicants considered for an appointment will be invited for an interview with the Program Director and selected Faculty. Interviews are conducted from mid-December to mid-January each year.

Training sites

We follow the standard ACGME curriculum for family medicine residency programs. Furthermore, we are known for our strong didactics, which occur every Thursday afternoon and include hands-on workshops, case conferences, and board reviews. We incorporate quarterly osteopathic training provided by Midwestern University faculty. Residents also participate in monthly tumor boards and grand rounds.

Offsite Rotations

Family Medicine Residents will undergo training and provide patient care in both broad hospital training and continuity of care for patients of all age groups, and residents are expected to adapt their skills to fit the community's needs. Training is provided for common procedures in the outpatient setting, including joint injections, vaginal deliveries, cryotherapy, osteopathic manipulation, biopsies, IUD insertion and removal, suturing, and toenail removal. Residents will learn to interpret EKGs, spirometry, and laboratory studies. Additionally, they will train to provide acute, chronic, and preventative medical care encompassing the broad scope of Family Medicine.
